Easter App Hunt

Easter App Hunt

Join us for an Easter App Hunt and discover applications for engaging with our communities. The Easter App Hunt will run from 14th March to 18th April 2018

What is an Easter App Hunt

Inspired by the 12 Apps of Christmas initiated by Regents University London, the Easter App Hunt will run from 14th March-18th April.  Drawing on expertise from a range of library staff, the Easter App Hunt will provide a supportive environment to try new apps and discover ways they are being used across the libraries in Cambridge. It will cover a range of apps, from social media, using interactive quizzes, to creating videos.

So, how will this work?

We hope that this will be an easy and quick way for you to experiment with a range of apps in a bite-sized format that can be fitted into busy schedules. Every Wednesday starting the 14th of March, a post will be published at 10am on the Librarians in Training blog. The posts will include what the app does, how it works, where you can get hold of it and tips and suggestions on how you use it in your work context. Each post contains short task to help you get started with the app.

  • 14th March – Twitter for Librarians
  • 21st March – Apps for Engaging Teaching or Presentations (Padlet, Kahoot and Mentimeter)
  • 28th March – Apps for Creating Images (Canva and Piktochart)
  • 11th April – Apps for Creating Videos (Adobe Spark and gif creation)
  • 18th April – Apps for Sharing Images (Instagram and Pinterest)

How do I take part

To take part all you need to do is complete the small task and share your experience with other participants on Twitter using the hashtag #CamEAH2018. Don’t worry if you have never tweeted before, that will be the first app we look at.

If you would like to participate, please email us at libtrain@hermes.cam.ac.uk and let us know your name, library and twitter handle.

Although the Easter App Hunt is primarily self-directed and online, Claire Sewell and Georgina Cronin will be running a Twitter session on Monday 19th March 10am-12pm. This session will be useful whether you are completely new to Twitter, or you are already on Twitter but know you could be making better use of it. You can sign up for this at https://www.training.cam.ac.uk/osc/event/2478969

After the Easter App Hunt

At the end of the course there will be two opportunities to share what you have learnt. You can come along to our Easter App Wrap-up session and deliver a short feedback presentation on one of the apps you have tried. This would be an ideal opportunity to practice presentation skills in front of a friendly audience. Alternatively, create your feedback using one of the apps covered in the Hunt and share that online by the date of the wrap-up session. We’ll announce the date and place of the Easter App Wrap-up session shortly.

Everyone who has signed up and completed at least one task a week will get a certificate and a small prize. (If you’re not a member of staff of the University of Cambridge library network you can still take part, but won’t be eligible for the certificate and prize unfortunately!)

All of the materials will be left up on this blog to refer back to later.

Many thanks to all the contributors who have helped create the Easter App Hunt:- Georgina Cronin, Claire Sewell, Laura Jeffrey, Beth Sherwood, John Clarke, Sarah Burton, Amy Theobald, Isla Kuhn, Helen Murphy, Lucy Woolhouse & Ryan Cronin
